The idea for the product originated with Rheva’s founders; it began as a student-run company (UF) in 2016 and was subsequently incorporated as a limited company in the autumn of 2017.
The idea was born in the summer of 2013 when a horse named Fengur sustained a wound on its knee. The wound was deep enough to require stitches, but the veterinarian deemed this impossible because the injury was located over a joint.
As this occurred during the peak of summer heat, flies were constantly swarming the wound. The challenge was to allow the wound to breathe—enabling a natural healing process—while simultaneously keeping insects away.
This led to the idea of using a modified fly mask secured around the leg with an elastic bandage. The veterinarian considered this one of the most brilliant solutions he had ever seen.
We began discussing how to further develop the concept. The solution was to create a shaped mesh that could be attached directly to the coat, much like a standard adhesive bandage. The product was then further developed and adapted for manufacturing into its current form, resulting in the wound protection product we are now proud to offer the market.
RHEVA’s ventilated bandage is a PATENTED and DESIGN-PROTECTED product.
It is manufactured by Cenova AB in Mjölby, while the tape/adhesive is supplied by Stokvis Tapes in Norrköping.
